Biography & Genealogy:James Marshall. Class of 1842. Genealogy: Born March 9, 1823 at Mt. Morris, Fauquier Co., VA. Father- Robert Morris Marshall (b. 1797 d. 1870); Mother- Lucy Pickett Marshall (her husband's cousin; b. 1796; m. 1819); Paternal grandparents- James Markham Marshall (b. 1764 d. 1848) and Hester Morris; Maternal grandparents- Charles Marshall & Lucy Pickett. Marriage- To Lucy Steptoe Marshall (b. KY 1824, dau. of Charles Coatsworth Marshall and Judith Steptoe Ball), his cousin, in 1846. Children- Eleven; names we have on record- Judith Ball, Hester Morris (m. Davison), Charles Coatsworth, Robert Morris, James Markham, Mary Morris, Susan Betts, Anna Maria (m. Clark), Lucy (m. Leathers). VMI record: Entered VMI on Nov. 11, 1839 from Warren Co., VA; graduated July 4, 1842 standing 15th out of 16 graduates. Military record: Civil War- Capt., 7th & 12th Virginia Cavalry Regiments. Career: Farmer near Front Royal, VA; teacher. Died Nov. 25, 1901 at Happy Creek, Warren Co., VA.
