|Biography & Genealogy:||George E. Mott, Class of 1875 (non-graduate). Genealogy: Born New Orleans, LA on August 25, 1854. Father- Robert Mott; Mother- name not in our records, died St. Anne's Episcopal Home for Widows, New Orleans, circa 1900; Sisters- Mary, Lilly. VMI Record: Matriculated on June 19, 1871 from New Orleans; resigned January 28, 1874; did not graduate. Career: After leaving VMI studied law in his father's firm (Semmes & Mott) but did not pursue this career; worked in engineering and contracting in Colorado and New Orleans. Marriage: April 1878 to Jessie Noble, daughter of John Irby Noble and Martha Somerville of New Orleans. No issue. Jessie died January 11, 1896 and George committed suicide April 11, 1896, said to have "died of a broken heart." Other information: 1. His sister Mary M. MOTT m. Joaquin Fernand DeVIGNIER, 28 Nov 1872, New Orleans, and they moved shortly thereafter to a farm near Warrenton VA. Family lived for many years in Geneva, Switzerland. 2. His sister Lilly never married, lived with her mother and with Mary until family suffered financial reverses; in 1906 she was living in New York city working as a portrait painter.|
