Va.; Mother- Elizabeth Friel Graham of Wythe Co. Va. Pat. Grandfather- Gen. Charles Tate; Pat. Grandmother- Mary Campbell. Mat. Grandfather- James Graham; Mat. Grandmother- Nancy Montgomery. Married- Mary Frances Martin in 1878. No children of their own, though they raised three orphans who were the children of Col. William M. Martin, Mary's brother. VMI Record: Entered VMI- Oct. 8, 1862; Resigned after the Corps of Cadets disbanded in Richmond Apr. 2, 1865; Made Honorary Graduate of the Class of 1866 in 1869. Civil War Record: Fought in the Battle of New Market May 15, 1864 as Private in Co. C. of the Corps of Cadets, but served with detachment; Promoted to Cadet Sargent Jan. 5, 1865. Careers: Teacher; journalist; Taught 6 years in Tennessee and 2 years in Virginia; Was principal of sub-collegiate school in Montrale for 13 years; Editor and owner of the News Review of Pulaski Co.
