Grandfather- William Hanson Gill; Pat. Grandmother- Sarah Johnston. Mat. Grandfather- Theodoric Leith; Mat. Grandmother- Victoria Plaster. Married- Elizabeth Grady, daughter of John Cadwalder Grady of Philadelphia, PA. Children- Elizabeth Suzanne Gill Norman, born in Manila, P.I. and married Frank Norman of Winnetka, IL Entered VMI- Sept. 22, 1903; Graduated June 20, 1907 standing 24 in a class of 29. [Just a note of interest: Your uncle was a classmate or "Brother Rat" of Gen. George S. Patton, III who attended VMI for about a year and a half before transferring to West Point]. Military Service- Was an Army Officer for 34 years; after VMI was commissioned a 2nd Lt. of infantry in 1912; commander of the 89th Infantry Division at Ft. Carson in 1942; after seven months Gen. Douglas MacArthur selected him to take over the 32nd Division of the Wisconsin National Guard, then stationed in Australia after extended combat against Japanese Forces in Northern New Guinea. Career- Civil Engineer, Banker; Seventh President of Colorado College. Died- Jan. 17, 1976.|
