(according to our records, he was 20 when he entered in 1860, so his date of birth may actually be 1840) Father- James O. Wood; Mother- Ann Elizabeth Godsey. Pat. Grandfather- Henry Wood; Pat. Grandmother- Sally Lawson. Mat. Grandfather- John Godsey; Mat. Grandmother- Julia Jett. Married- 1st- Laura Lucrecia James daughter of William W. James; 2nd- Mrs. Virginia Elton Rhodes Holmes, daughter of David Rhodes Children- (All from 1st marriage) 1- James Harvey Wood, Jr.; 2- William Scott Wood; 3- Gertrude Wood Dillard; 4- Mary Wood Harriss. VMI Record: Entered VMI- July 26, 1860; left after one year to join the Confederate Army; made Honorary Graduate July, 2 1869. Military Record: Drill Master for VMI Corps of Cadets stationed at Richmond, Va. and at Camp Bartow with the 37th Va. in spring of 1861; Enlisted March 3, 1862 at Estillville as Private in Co. D, 37th Va.; Promoted to 1st Lieut. April 22, 1862; became Adjutant May 23, 1862; made Captain of Co. D June 28, 1862; Wounded in action at Cedar Mountain; Captured July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg and held at Fort Delaware, De.; exchanged; Captured again at Spotsylvania May 12, 1864 and held at Point Lookout, Md. and then Fort Delaware; Released on oath June 16, 1865. Career- Lawyer; Clerk of Circuit and County Courts of Scott Co.; Member of Va. House of Delegates. Died- Nov. 12, 1917 in New York. Buried at East View Cemetery, Bristol, Va.
