|Biography & Genealogy:||Willis John, Class of 1864: Born- July 21, 1844. Matriculated from Orange Court House, Va. At VMI 4 1/2 months. At Georgetown College (now University) 1858-?. Military Record: Enlisted April 17, 1861 at Orange Court House as Pvt, Company A, 13th Va. Absent sick late summer 1861. Discharged (under age) December 14, 1861. At VMI January-May 1862. Enlisted July 17 (or August 15) 1862 at Gordonsville (or Barboursville) for 3 years of war ($50 bounty) as Pvt, Company K, 2nd Va Cavalry. In hospital (Richmond) late 1862. Detailed to collect conscipts March-April 1863. Captured at Greencastle, Pa July 5, 1863 on retreat from Gettysburg. Held Ft Delaware, De; Point Lookout, Maryland. Exchanged April 27, 1864. In hospital (Richmond) May 1864 (debility). No further record found. Unofficial source says rejoined his company. Post War Career: Wrote of his military service "never wounded but badly scared on various occasions." Farmer; railroad agent. Died- November 12, 1915.|
