Biography & Genealogy:Upshur Thomas Teackle, Class of 1864: Born- December 22, 1844. Matriculated from Franktown, Va. At VMI 10 months. Military Record: Left on guard at VMI april 1861. Enlisted June 8, 1861 at Eastville (now Gate City) for 1 year in Co A, 39th Va. Listed as missing on September-October 1861 roll and late roll as captured in Northampton County November 1861. Exchanged or escaped. Unofficial source says appointed to cadetship in army but appointment never recieved. Enlisted Ocotber 29, 1862 in Richmond for 3 years as Private in what became Company B, 39th Battalion Va Cavalry. In hospital (Richmond) fall 1863 (fever). Signed parole in Richmond May 17, 1865. Post War Career: Merchant. Died- January 14, 1910 in South Carolina.
