Biography & Genealogy: | Sims, Richard Henry, Class of 1864: Born- August 18, 1842. Matriculated from Ryard's Depot, Greenville, Va. {Listed as Ryland's Depot in other sources} At VMI 17 months over 2 years. Military Record: Drill Master, Richmond spring 1861. Resigned from VMI June 15, 1861. At UNC 1861-62. Appointed 2nd Lt July 17, 1862 (date of rank July 12). Assigned as Drill Master to Camp Lee. On duty there until evacuation of Richmond. Captured April 7, 1865 at Amelia Court House. Held at Johnson's Island, Ohio. Released on oath June 20, 1865. Post War Career: Physician; farmer. MD, Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pa., 1867. Died- February 26, 1919 {Listed as February 21, 1919, on death certificate} in Powellton, Va. Buried in the Sims Family Cemetery in south Brunswick County, Va. |
