|Biography & Genealogy:||Octavus Routh, Class of 1864: Born- c1845. Matriculated from Ashwood, La. At VMI 5 months. Military Record: Enlisted March 6, 1862 in Tensas Parish, Louisiana for 3 years of war as Private, Capt A. Bondurant's Company which became Company A, Col W.C. Wood's Regiment Mississippi Cavalry (1st Mississippi Cavalry; Col W. Adams's Regiment Mississippi Cavalry). Company transferred to 15th Louisiana Cavalry Battalion September 1862. In November 1863 battalion became 3rd Louisiana Cavalry (Col I.F. Harrison's Regiment Louisiana Cavalry). Only record shows absent sick late April 1862. Seems to have been the "Octavus Routh" detailed from the cavalry at unknown date (July 1863 or earlier) to serve with Lt S.M. Routh's Signal Corps in District of West Louisiana. Sergeant. Lieutenant. Signed parole June 6, 1865 at Natchitoches, Louisiana as Lt. Post War Career: Catholic Priest. Died- 1873.|
