|Biography & Genealogy:||William Nochols Meriwether, Class of 1864: Born- May 12, 1840. Matriculated from Holcombs Rock, Va. At VMI 11 months. Military Record: Left on guard detail at VMI April 1861. Resigned June 26, 1861. Entered service July 27, 1861 and elected 1st Lt, Company C, 58th Virginia. (Some records show brief service as 1st Sgt). Dropped May 1862. Unofficial source indicates remained with regiment until fall 1863. Elected 2nd Lt, Company C, 21st Virginia Cavalry September 1, 1863. Unofficial source says slightly wounded in action November 1863 at Knoxville, Tennesse and near Washington, DC in 1864. In hospital (Charlottesville, Lynchburg) January-February 1865. Post War Career: Lived in Missouri. Farmer; railroad contractor. Died- August 1918.|
