Grandmother- Elizabeth McClannahan. Married- Emma Paxton of Rockbridge Co. Va. Children- 1- Robert McCulloch; 2- Roberta McCulloch; 3- Mrs. Thomas E. Powe (given name unknown). VMI Record: Entered VMI- July 21, 1860; Left after one year; Made Honorary Graduate of the Class of 1864 in 1869. Civil War Record: Served as Drill Master for VMI Corps of Cadets stationed in Richmond, Va. in spring of 1861; unofficial source says then served as Drill Master with the 11th Ga. Infantry until July 11, 1861, then attached himself to Co. H of the 4th Va. Infantry and fought with that unit in the First Manassas where he was slightly wounded in action; officially enlisted July 22, 1861 at Manassas as Private in Co. B 18th Va. Infantry; elected 2nd Lieut. Oct. 9, 1861; made Adjutant April 23, 1862; Wounded in action (arm) at Frayser's Farm.; unofficial source says also wounded in action at the Second Manassas; in hospital until Oct. 31, 1862; promoted to 1st Lieut. Oct. 9, 1862; made Captain June 19, 1863; twice wounded in action and left for dead in Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg, July 3, 1863; in US Hospital in Baltimore, Md. July 25, 1863; held at Johnson's Island, Oh. and Point Lookout, Md. until end of War.
