|Biography & Genealogy:||Daniel Murray Lee, Class of 1864. Early Life & Genealogy: Born- July 14, 1844, Alexandria, VA. Father: Sydney Smith Lee (Admiral CSN); Mother: Anna Maria Mason. Paternal Grandparents: Gen. "Light Horse" Harry Lee and Ann Carter. Maternal Grandparents: Gen. John Mason and Anna Maria Murray. VMI Record: Matriculated from Washington D.C. At VMI 1 year, 1860-1861. Military Career: Drill Master, Richmond and in Manassas area spring 1861. Joined Confederate States Navy July 1861 as Acting Midshipman. To midshipman June 2, 1863; passed Midshipman 1864. Served with naval squadrons at Richmond and Charleston, South Carolina. On "United States", "Jamestown", and at Drewry's Bluff naval battery. Also served on "Richmond", "Chicora", "Patrick Henry", and "Chickamauga". With Naval Brigade in Appomattox Campaign. Escaped from Sayler's Creek debacle and joined staff of Maj. Gen. Fitzhugh Lee (his brother) as Acting Aide-de-Camp. Surrendered at Meadow Farm April 13, 1865. Marriage: To Nannie E. Ficklen, in 1875, daughter of J. Burwell Ficklen and Ann Eliza Fitzhugh of Belmont, Stafford Co. Children (as listed in his obituary, 1916): 1. Miss Mary Custis Lee 2. Miss Edmonia Corbin Lee 3. Daniel Murray Lee 4. Harry Fitzhugh Lee 5. Sydney Smith Lee 6. Joseph Burwell Lee. Post War Career: Farmer, cattle breeder in Stafford Co., VA. On Board of Visitors, Soldiers' Home, Richmond 1892.
