Biography & Genealogy: | Johnston Peyton Jr., Class of 1864: Born- November 12, 1843. Matriculated from Richmond, Va. At VMI 2 years (repeated freshman year). Military Record: Drill Master, Richmond spring 1861. Unofficial source says served summer 1861 as Aide-de-Camp to Col R. Johnston (possibly a relative). Elected Lt, Richmond Fayette (Va) Artillery (Company B, 38th Battalion Va Light Artillery) and joined unit April 25, 1862. On detached duty fall 1863 (unofficial source says as Chief of Ordnance to Gen P.G.T. Beauregard and Aide-de-Camp to Maj Gen D.H. Hill.) Sick spring 1864 but went with battery to Cold Harbor where killed. Died- June 1, 1864 at Cold Harbor. |
