|Biography & Genealogy:||Greenlaw Alonzo, Class of 1864: Born- ca. 1842. Matriculated from Memphis, Tn. At VMI 4 months. Military Career: Joined Company A, 2nd Tn (Col J.K. Walker's) at Memphis, Tn April 26, 1861. To 2nd Lt. Wounded in action at Shiloh. Discharged May 1862. Indentification not certain, but may have been the man who enlisted for war October 1, 1862 at Byhalia, Mississippi as a Private, Compnay C, 2nd Ms Partisan Rangers (Col J. G. Ballentine's Regiment Ms Cavalry). This man Wounded in action October 16, 1862 at Straighfene Creek. In hospital (Canton, Ms). Seems to have been captured late 1862 but either exchanged or escaped. To Ordinance Sergeant April 20, 1863; 1st Sergeant summer 1863. Private on fall 1863 rolls. Regiment disbanded early 1865. Appears as Private, Company F, 3rd (N.B. Forrest's) Tn Cavalry on roll of men surrendered at Citronelle, Al May 4, 1865 and paroled at Gainesville, Al May 11, 1865. Post War Career: Took oath at Memphis, Tn June 2, 1865. 5'11", light complexion, blue (one record says gray) eyes, light hair. Died- VMI man died in Memphis, Tn.|
