Military Record: served as a Drillmaster in Richmond during the spring of 1861; enlisted June 1, 1861 at Winchester for two years as a Private with Company D, 6th Virginia Cavalry; his horse, which was valued at $625, was Killed in Action on Sep. 13, 1863 near Brandy Station; transferred Nov. 1, 1863 to 11th Virginia Cavalry (his father's regiment) as Sergeant Major; appointed 1st Lieutenant and Adjutant on January 18, 1864 (date of rank Dec. 7, 1863); Wounded in Action (right thigh) on Oct. 9, 1864; in hospital (Charlottesville)from November to December 1864; paroled at Appomattox. Post War Career: Served as a steward at the Deaf and Dumb Asylum in Staunton, VA. Died- 1896. |
