Biography & Genealogy: | George Marshall Francisco, Class of 1864: Born- September 6, 1843 in Marshall, Missouri; returned to Virginia with his family when he was an infant. Matriculated from Staunton, VA. At VMI 1 year. Military Record: Drillmaster in Richmond during the spring of 1861 for the 18th Virginia, a Texas company, as well as the 52d Virginia; enlisted May 10, 1862 at Monterey for 1 year as a Private, Company I, 14th Virginia Cavalry (some records show other dates and place); captured in Greenbrier County, West Virginia on November 26 (or 27), 1862; held at Wheeling, West Virginia, Camp Chase, Ohio, and Alton, Illinois until exchanged on April 1, 1863; participated in last charge at Appomattox; on list of POWs paroled at Staunton. Post War Career: Merchant; real estate; public official; returned to Marshall, Missouri in 1867; served as a County Administrator. Died: October 5, 1903 in Marshall, Missouri; buried at the Presbyterian Church cemetery there. |
