|Biography & Genealogy:||Thomas Dixon Davis, Class of 1864: New Market Cadet; 1st Lieutenant , Co. C. Genealogy: Born- April 16, 1843, in Lynchburg, Va. Father- George Dixon Davis; Mother- Ann Mary Wills. Pat. Grandfather- Thomas Davis; Pat. Grandmother- Rachel Dixon. Mat. Grandparents- unknown. Married- Lulie Brown, on September 10, 1877. No Children. Matriculated from Lynchburg, VA. At VMI 3 years. VMI Record: entered VMI on Jan. 13, 1862; as a cadet, he was reported to have been possessed of some "artistic genius." Military Record: served as a Cadet 1st Lieutenant with Company C at New Market, but on leave then; appointed 2d Lieutenant, Drillmaster, on Aug. 1, 1864 and assigned to Virginia Reserve forces; on Nov. 15, 1864, he was ordered to report to Brigadier General E.G. Lee, commanding at Staunton; assigned to accompany Lee when he went on medical furlough in November, 1864; lived in Lynchburg; became a Captain in the Virginia National Guard. Career: Hardware Merchant, Court Clerk, Public Official, Bank Cashier; served as Assistant Postmaster, City Councilman (1896-1900); County clerk (1901-25). Died- June 24, 1925; buried Spring Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg, VA (some records give year of birth as 1844).|
