Biography & Genealogy: | Adam Stephen Dandridge, Class of 1864. Born- Sept. 30, 1844. Matriculated from Middleway, WV. At VMI 6 weeks; entered as a Third Classman (sophomore). Military Record: Enlisted May 29, 1862 at Charles Town, West Virginia as a Private with Captain A. Graham's Company of Virginia Light Artillery (1st Rockbridge Artillery); on leave in August of 1863; Wounded in action in the shoulder at Spotsylvania; detailed as courier for Brigadier General W.N. Pendleton; paroled at Appomattox. Post War Career: Teacher; lumber business; farmer; public official; Represented Jefferson County in West Virginia House of Delegates from 1891 to 1895; Family owned "The Bower" west of Charles Town, WV, a home prominent in many accounts of the Army of Northern Virginia; Episcopalian. Died- Jan. 12, 1924 in Charles Town, West Virginia; buried in the Episcopal Cemetery near Shepherdstown, WV. |
