|Biography & Genealogy:||Douglas Hancock Cooper, Jr. Class of 1864: Born- 1839. Matriculated from Cold Springs, MS. At VMI for 2 and 1/2 months. Military Record: Dis-missed from VMI 31 October 1860 as AWOL for more than 30 days. Enlisted for war 6 June 1861 at Woodville, MS as Sgt, Company E, 21st Mississippi (1st [Col W.L. Brandon's] Mississippi Battalion). Sick July-August 1861. Made 1st Sgt 23 April 1862. Appointed Adjutant, 1st Choctaw and Chickasaw Mounted Rifles (commanded by his father who requested the transfer) 14 June 1862. Aide on father's staff until 16 May 1864 when appointed 1st Lt and Aide-de-Camp. Applied August 1864 for appointment as Maj. On staff of Gen E.K. Smith as Aide-de-Camp February 1865. Post War Career: Planter. Died- Date Unknown. VMI records indicate that he "Died soon after the war."|
