|Biography & Genealogy:||William Arthur Coleman, Class of 1864: Born- unknown. Matriculated on August 23, 1860 from Amherst Court House, VA. At VMI for 1 year. Military Record: Drillmaster in Richmond during the spring of 1861. Acting Adjutant, 50th Virginia. Unofficial source says he made 1st Lt. Captured at Ft Donelson on 16 February 1862 in which battle he was cited for "conspicuous gallantry." POW at Johnson's Island, OH until sent for exchange 1 September 1862. Enlisted 1 September 1863 at Amherst as a Pvt, Company E, 2nd Virginia Cavalry for 3 years. On list of POW's paroled at Lynchburg on 15 April 1865. Post War Career: Dry Goods Clerk. Lived in Baltimore. Brother of Coleman, JT (VMI Class of 1866). Died- 20 July 1890.|
