Biography & Genealogy:William Littleberry Burnett, Class of 1864. Born- 6 October 1841. (Some records show Year of Birth as 1842). Matriculated from Romaria, GA. At VMI for 5 months. Unofficial source says he attended GMI before entering VMI. Military Record: Enlisted 4 March 1862 at Ft Gaines, GA for 3 years as a Pvt, Company I, 51st Georgia ($50 bounty). Elected Capt 19 July 1862. Captured at South Mountain 13 September 1862. Held at Ft Delaware, DE. Exchanged 10 November 1862. Tried October 1863 for disobedience of orders and breach of arrest. Acquitted of former charge; convicted of latter. Released from arrest and restored to duty 7 May 1864. Meanwhile, hospitalized 6 May. In hospital much of 1864. Post War Career: Farmer, Public Official. Representative for Quitman County in the Georgia House of Representatives in 1895. Died- 24 January 1903 in Eufaula, AL.
