Biography & Genealogy:Edwin Jones, VMI Class of 1873. Genealogy: Born December 21, 1853 in Montgomery, Alabama. Father- Samuel Goode Jones; Mother- Martha Ward Goode. Paternal Grandfather- Dr. Thomas Williamson Jones of Lawrenceville, Brunswick Co., VA; Paternal Grandmother- Mary Armistead Goode of Mecklenburg Co., VA. Maternal Grandfather- Dr. Thomas Goode of Hot Springs, Bath Co., VA; Maternal Grandmother- Mary Ann Knox. VMI Record: Matriculated August 23, 1869 from Youngsboro, Lee County, Alabama Did not graduate; dropped from rolls January 21, 1871. Married: Bertha Hansford Stubbs, (b. 1854 in Montgomery, AL; m. 1880.). Children: Samuel Baytop Jones (b. 1884); Mary Virginia Jones (b. 1888, married Albert Montgomery). Career: Attorney and judge in Montgomery AL; subsequently relocated to Tucson, Arizona and resumed practice of law. Edwin Jones died October 15, 1931 in Tucson. Brother of Thomas G. Jones, VMI Class of 1864.

The database currently includes the names of all enrolled students (both graduates and non-graduates) from VMI's opening in 1839 through the World War II era. In addition, you will find biographical and genealogical information, including a summary of military service during the Civil War, for many individuals who attended in the 19th century. The database also includes some historical Faculty and Board of Visitors members, as well as U. S. Army students sent to VMI for training during World Wars I and II.
