|Biography & Genealogy:||Urquhart George Spruill, Class of 1863: Born- Ocotber 7, 1842. Matriculated from Farmer's Grove, Va. At VMI 2 years, 1 month (entered as a sophomore). Military Record: Left on guard at VMI April 1861. At unknown date enlisted in 9th Virginia and served as Sgt Maj of post at Craney Island. May also have been Sgt Maj of regiment. Returned to VMI early 1862. Re-entered service September 12, 1862 in Southampton County as Pvt, Va Consripts, assigned to Camp Lee where he helped drill new troops. Appointed 2nd Lt and Drill Master February 16, 1863. On duty there rest of war. Post War Career: Lived in North Carolina. Planter. Died- February 11, 1898 in Suffolk.|
