Biography & Genealogy: | Turner Thomas Theodore, Class of 1863: Born- October 23, 1843. Matriulated from St Louis, Missouri. At VMI 1 year. Military Record: At US Naval Academy 1859-October 1860 (resigned). With Brig Gen (later Lt Gen) R.S. Ewell as volunteer aide Ocotber 1861-April 1862. Appointed 1st Lt and Aide-de-camp April 29, 1862 (date of rank April 1). Captured in Maryland 1862; exchanged November 8, 1862. Reconnoitered Culp's Hill at Gettysburg for Ewell night of July 1, 1863. Very severely Wounded in action (legs) May 10, 1864 while helping recapture cannon at Spotsylvania. "Probably no officer had more distinguished himself by repeated acts of personal bravery and dash," wrote Ewell. Captured at Sayler's Creek April 6, 1865. Unofficial source says then with Naval Brigade. Held at Johnson's Island, Ohio. Released on oath May 12, 1865. Post War Career: Farmer; financier. Died- January 31, 1897. |
