Biography & Genealogy:Sherwell William, Class of 1863: Born- 1863. Matriculated from Williamsburg, Va. At VMI 6 months. Military Record: Dismissed from VMI January 13, 1860 for excessive demerits. Identification purely speculative but may have been the 17 year old student who enlisted May 18, 1861 at Upper Grafton as Cpl, Company I, 32nd Virginia (company became artillery company and transferred to 1st Va Artillery as Company G). In hospital August 1861. Company disbanded June 1862. This may be the same man who enlisted at Richmond July 25, 1862 (as substitute for William Smith) as Private, Capt T.J. Page Jr's Company Virginia Light Artillery (Magruder Light Artillery). Company disbanded October 1862. This man then joined Capt J.D. Smith's Company Virginia Light Artillery (Bedford Light Artillery). To Cpl. Paroled at Appomattox. Post War Career: Residence Warwick County. Died- ?
