Biography & Genealogy:Sheppard William Young, Class of 1863: Born- February 18, 1844. Matriculated from Richmond, Va. At VMI 11 months (entered as a sophomore). Military Record: Left as guard at VMI April 1861. Enlisted August 21, 1861 at Yorktown as Private, Company D, 1st Va Artillery (3rd Company Richmond Howitzers; Capt B.H. Smith's Company). Discharged November 19, 1861 for disability. Enlisted March 22, 1862 at Richmond for war as Private, Company A, 13th Battalion Virginia Light Artillery (Capt G.G. Otey's Battery; Capt D.N. Walker's Battery). Retired for disability July 25, 1864 (blind in one eye; decreasing sight in other). Post War Career: Assigned to post in Auditor's Office, Treasury Department. At Trinity Church, Danville. Episcopal clergyman. Died- June 22, 1892.
