Biography & Genealogy: | Joseph Brown Prince, Class of 1863 (graduated 5th out of 10): Born- April 18, 1844. Matriculated from Green Plain, Va. At VMI 2 years (entered as a junior). Lt, Assistant Professor of Math and Tactics at VMI 1863-64. Military Record: Appointed 2nd Lt, Artillery, Provincial Army CS January 19, 1865. Assigned to duty with Chief of Ordnance. On leave February 1865. Assigned as Assistant to Chief of Ordnance, Cavalry Corps, Army of Northern Virginia February 8, 1865. Assigned March 27, 1865 as Ordnance Officer for brigade of Brigadier General R.L.T. Beale. Surrendered and paroled April 26, 1865 as Assistant Ordnance Officer, Lt Gen W. Hampton's cavalry, Army of Tennessee. Post War Career: Studied law at UVa 1866-67. Commonwealth's attorney, Southampton County. Judge,m county court house 1883-95. Democrat (delegate to 1876 national convention). Died- March 25, 1903. |
