|Biography & Genealogy:||Robert Bolling Poore, Class of 1863: Born- March 21, 1842 in Appomattox Co. Va. Father- William A. Poore; Mother- Eliza Bolling Flood. No information on grandparents. No information on whether or not he was married or had children. Entered VMI- Sept. 10, 1859; Resigned the next year, probably to join the Confederate Army. Civil War Service- 1st Lt. of Co. H. 2nd Va. Cavalry until 1862 when the Company re-organized; Private for Co. A of the 20th Va. Heavy Artillery Battalion; Transferred to Co. E of the 8th Confederate States' Cavalry which later became Co. E of the 10th Va. Cavalry in Jun. 1864. His highest rank there was Sergeant. Captured April 3, 1865 at Amelia Court House and held at Point Lookout, Md.; Paroled Jun. 30, 1865. Post War Career- Lawyer; Served one term as member of the Va. House of Delegates from Appomattax in 1869 and served one term as Commonwealth Attorney after that. Presidental elector for the 10th Congressional District on the Cleveland- Thurman ticket in 1888. Continued to practice law until 1908 when he moved to his farm "Belle Glade" in Campbell Co. Va. Died- Nov. 7, 1910.|
