Biography & Genealogy: | Jarrell Thomas George, Class of 1863: Born- November 17, 1840. Matriculated from Princeton, (WV). At VMI 5 months. Left VMI because of illness stemming from infected leg. Went west after leg healed. Returned upon hearing of Va's secession. Enlisted (probably in May 1861) for 1 year as Private, Company B, 36th Va. Extended enlistment for the war May 26, 1862 and on same day elected 2nd Lt. Wounded in action at Fayette Court House 1862. Praised for "coolness and courage" and "great courage and energy" at Gualey Septembber 11, 1862. Cited for "gallant and distinguished conduct, bringing off the colors when the color bearer and guard were all shot down" at Cloyd's Farm. Killed in action at Piedmont. Died- June 5, 1864 at Piedmont. |
