Biography & Genealogy: | Humes Frank Alexander, Class of 1863: Born- 1841. Matriculated from Abingdon, Va. At VMI 1 year, 5 months. Military Record: Entered service April 22, 1861 at Abingdon for 1 year as 1st Lt, Company B, 37th Va. Absent sick March-April 1862. Dropped April 21, 1862 at re-orgnization. Recent service November 8, 1862 as 2nd lt, Company B (formerly Company C), Maj T.E. Jackson's Battalion Light Artillery, Virginia State Line. To 1st Lt. December 30, 1862. Company disbanded March 31, 1863. Joined Capt J.M. Oliver's Company Virginia Light Artillery (which became Company K, 21st Va Cavalry) for 3 years. Elected 1st Lt June 27, 1863. Absent on recruiting duty August 1863. Medical Board found him unfit for field duty March 1864. Assigned to Conscript Bureau in Richmond. On duty at Camp of Instruction, Marianna, Fl July 1864. Working in Enrolling Office, Gainesville, Fl October 1864. Ordered back to the camp at Marianna, Fl October 17, 1864. Post War Career: Teacher; lawyer. Died- May 30, 1893. |
