Grandmother- unknown. Mat. Grandfather- James Harper; Mat. Grandmother- unknown. Married- Virginia Williams of Louisa Co. Va. in April or May of 1868. Children- Thomas Hardy. VMI Record: Entered VMI- Aug 4, 1859; Left after two years; Made Honorary Graduate of the Class of 1863 on July 2, 1869. Civil War Record: Drill Master for VMI Corps of Cadets stationed in Richmond in spring of 1861; elected 2nd Lieut. Co. B, 55th Va. Nov. 23, 1861; on detached service in Richmond, Feb. 1862; in April, 1862 his Co. became Captain W. C. Fleet's Co. of the Va. Light Artillery (Middlesex Artillery); commanded battery in the Second Battle of Manassas; placed under arrest in fall of 1862 for refusing to obey orders; sent home to await orders and act as Conscript Officer; Captured by Union forces in Middlesex Co. as he was sitting on his porch reading Shakespeare; unofficial sources says the detail that captured him was commanded by G. A. Custer; Held at Johnson's Island, Oh. Careers: Lawyer; City Attorney for San Jose, Ca. Died- June 13, 1913.|
