At VMI 1 year and 2 months. Military Career: Joined Company K, 11th Va for 1 year at Roaring Run May 25 May, 1861. Elected 2nd Lt May 15, 1861. Appointed Lt, CS service July 1, 1861. Absent sick July-Aug 1861, December 1861, April 1862. Not re-elected April 26, 1862. Enlisted as Private, Company H, 14th Va Cavalry September 15, 1862 at Charleston (WV). Captured November 26 or 27, 1862 in Greenbrier County. Held at Wheeling (WV); Camp Chase, Oh; Alton, Il. Exchanged April 8, 1863. Wounded in action, Strasburg in 1863. Sergeant April 1864. Detailed June 3, 1864 as orderly for Brig Gen J. McCausland (Class of 1857). Unofficial source says Lt. on McCausland's staff and chief of couriers 1864-65. Post War Career: Farmer; civil engineer. Died- Run over by a train in Roanoke and died in hospital there November 22, 1903. Buried in Fairview Cemetery there.|
