Scotland, a lawyer; Mother- Elizabeth Bryce; Paternal grandfather- Archibald Bryce of Greenfield, Goochland Co., VA. Marriage-(1st) Sarah L. C. B. Bryce (a cousin) in 1848; one child from 1st marriage died in infancy. Marriage (2nd), in 1853- Widow of Hudson Garland of Clarksville, TN (maiden name unknown); Issue- one son, William. VMI Record: Entered VMI on November 11, 1839, from Richmond, VA; graduated July 4, 1842, standing 11th in a Class of 16. Civil War record: Colonel, 14th Tennessee Infantry Regiment. Career: teacher, college president (Stewart College, Clarksville, TN; now Rhodes College). Mortally wounded in action at 2nd Battle of Manassas and died September 2, 1862. Initially buried on battlefield; remains moved to Shockoe Cemetery, Richmond, VA, in 1866.|
