Biography & Genealogy: | Richard Chamberlaine, Jr., Class of 1863: Born- ca. 1843. Matriculated from Norfolk, Va. At VMI 3 years. Military Record: Left on guard at VMI April 1861. Wrote to Supt. Smith to protest. Enlisted March 27, 1864, at Gordonsville for war as private, Capt. G. W. Brown's '63 C., Va. Horse Artillery (Capt W. M. McGregor's Battery)(bounty). In hospital June, 1864, with dysentery. In hospital August, 1864, with a contusion from falling off a horse. On receipt roll for clothing fourth quarter, 1864. Paroled at Ashland, April 21, 1865, with permission to go to Baltimore, Md. Post War Career: Merchant. Brother of Chamberlaine, G '53, and Chamberlaine H. '66. Died- Nov. 30, 1879, in New York, NY. |
