At unknown date enlisted as private, Capt. J. J. Shoemaker's Co., Va. Horse Artillery (Capt. M. N. Moorman's '56 Co.) Praised for conduct at Chancellorsville, Va. Assigned to Army of Tenn. summer of 1863, as acting 2nd Lt. of engineers. To 2nd Lt., 3rd CS Engineers (Date of Rank: April 30, 1864). Post War Career: Teacher. Episcopal. Brother of Chalmers, AC '68, Chalmers, WM '67. Relative of Brigadier General J. R. Chalmers. Died- Oct. 15, 1918, in Lexington, Ky.
