Biography & Genealogy: | Robert Alexander Boyd, Class of 1863. Genealogy: Born May 2, 1842, Oakley, Mecklenburg Co., Virginia. Parents: Richard Boyd and Lucy Ann Goode. Paternal grandparents: Robert Boyd and Sally Anderson Jones. Maternal grandparents: John Bennett Goode and Pamelia Hendrick. Additional genealogy in our file, available upon request. Education: Attended Randolph Macon College (prior to VMI attendance); Matriculated at VMI on January 9, 1862 and was admitted to the 2nd (Junior) class; graduated July 3, 1863, standing 7 out of 10 graduates. Civil War record: He joined the 1st Regiment of Engineers (Col. T. M. R.Talcott commanding) as the 1st Sergeant of Company D and served until the end of the war. Boyd witnessed the surrender at Appomattox Courthouse, where his unit served as body guards for General Lee. Marriage: To Anna Boisseaux Hatcher on November 15, 1882. Children- 1.
