|Biography & Genealogy:||Wirt Webb, Class of 1871: Genealogy: Born- July 4, 1850 in Eutaw, Ala. Father- William Peter Webb; Mother- Martha Bell. Pat. Grandfather- Judge. Henry Young Webb; Pat. Grandmother- Elizabeth Forney. Mat. Grandfather- John Bell; Mat. Grandmother- Elizabeth Bacon Bell. Married- Carrie Kurtz of Mifflinburg, Pa. Children- No children. VMI Record: Entered VMI- July 23, 1867; Left after one year. Entered Washington College (now Washington and Lee University) in the fall of 1868, and afterwards attended Baltimore Business College. Careers: Enganged in business in Louisville, Ky. for one year; moved to St. Louis, Mo. for several years and then back to Alabama where he took charge of the Scottsville Mill Property in Bibb Co. for 5 or 6 years; he left the Mill business to enter politics and was appointed Superintendent of one of the Government Departments in Washington, D.C. under President Clevland; after the Clevland administration, he left politics and settled in Washington, engaging in the Real Estate business until his death. Died- Sept. 19, 1913. His wife died 20 days after him and they were buried in Mifflinburg, Pa.|
