Biography & Genealogy: | Died in World War II. Maj. Philip G. Chapman, U.S. Army Air Force. Killed in action Mar. 25, 1945, when a plane he was flying crashed after being damaged by ground fire during a raid on Hong Kong. Chapman was commander of the 74th Flying Squadron. In the seven months he was overseas, he shot down seven airplanes, destroyed 21 on the ground and sank three Japanese vessels. |
