Biography & Genealogy:Isaac Winston, Class of 1848. Genealogy: Born- Nov. 03, 1827, in Culpeper Co., Va. Father- William A. Winston; Mother- Mary Howson Wallace. Pat. Grandfather- Isaac Winston; Pat. Grandmother- Lucy Coles. Mat. Grandfather- Thomas Wallace; Mat. Grandmother- Mary Hooe. His brother is Lucien Dad Winston, VMI Class of 1857. Never married, no children. Career: 1851-1853 Worked for U S Interior Department; 1856-1858 Indian Agent, Pottawatomie County, Kansas; ca. 1858 appointed US Marshal 1859-1861; appointed by President Buchanan as Consul to Jamaica - contracted cholera or yellow fever and went home; 1868 appointed Postmaster in Mitchells Station, Culpeper County VA. Died December 13, 1896 in Winston VA. He is buried in the cemetery at Mitchells Presbyterian Church in Mitchells VA.

The database currently includes the names of all enrolled students (both graduates and non-graduates) from VMI's opening in 1839 through the World War II era.
