Biography & Genealogy: | Benjamin P. Grigsby, Class of 1862: Born- ca. 1841. Matriculated from Princeton, Mercer Co. Va. (now West. Va.). Father- James S. Grigsby. Entered VMI- Sept. 29, 1857; Dismissed Nov. 24, 1858 for excessive demerits. Civil War Service- Identification not certain, but there was a 19-year old man named B.P. Grigsby who enlisted on June 2, 1861 at Lynchburg, Va. as Private in Co. G. 24th Va. Regt. He was then promoted to Sgt. Maj. July 3, 1861, then to 1st Lt. May 10, 1862. Wounded in the Seven Days Battle. Detailed in early 1863 to enroll conscripts. Hospitalized with syphilis in March 1864; returned Aug 10, 1864 and made Captain Aug. 20, 1864. Signed parole in Charleston, WV June 23, 1865. Died- Sometime after 1912. |
