Biography & Genealogy: | Archibald (Archie) Pierce Williams, Class of 1862. Genealogy: Born Rapides Parish, Louisiana, May 15, 1845; Father- Josiah Pitts Williams; Mother- Maria Bushnell; J. P. Williams was a sugar planter who owned one of the largest plantations in the state. VMI Record: Entered VMI on July 29, 1858 and was a cadet for one year; he resigned on July 9, 1859 because of academic and conduct deficiencies; after leaving VMI he studied at the Louisiana State Seminary (now LSU). Military Record: During Civil War served with Company B (later Co. E) 2nd Louisiana Infantry Regiment; in 1864 was on duty with Transportation Branch, QM Dept; at end of war he was a Major on the staff of Gen. Arthur P. Bagby. Marriage: Daisy LeBlanc, daughter of Octave LeBlanc of West Baton Rouge Parish, LA. Career: planter and deputy sheriff in St. Landry and Rapides parishes, LA. He was alive in 1892. Date of death unknown. |
