VMI Record: Entered VMI- Oct. 20, 1857; Ordered to repeat the his 4th Class (Freshman) year July 8, 1858 because of academic deficiencies; Resigned sometime in 1859. Military Record: Enlisted May 29, 1861 at Camp Salvington as Private in Co. E, 9th Va. Cavalry; Elected 1st Lieut. Aug. 26, 1861; Absent, sick, in fall of 1862; Resigned for reasons of health Dec. 17, 1862; Appointed Adjutant of the 36th Battalion Va. Cavalry Feb. 5, 1863; Captured at Moorefield, W. Va. Aug. 7, 1864; Held at Camp Chase, OH; Exchanged March 4, 1865. Unofficial source says he made Captain at some point in his military career. Careers: Unknown. He was an invalid much of his life. Died- June 21, 1920 in Staunton, Va.|
