Biography & Genealogy:Spratley William Wardlow, Class of 1862: Born- September 27, 1837. Matriculated from Stone Mountain, Va. At VMI 2 years (repeated freshman year). Military Record: Enlisted May 4, 1861 at Hicksford (now Emporia) for 1 year as Pvt, Company F, 5th Virginia Battalion. Unofficial source says volunteered for temporary duty with CSN spring 1862 and served on CSS Patrick Henry and CSS Teaser. Transferred to Company I, 12th Virginia May 14, 1862. Transferred November 14, 1862 to Company H, 13th Virginia Cavalry. On leave December 1862. February 1863 roll shows sick in quarters. All other extant 1863-65 rolls show Present for Duty. Paroled at Appomattox. Post War Career: Farmer. Died- March 21, 1919 at Soldier's Home, Richmond. Buried Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.
