|Biography & Genealogy:||Lewis H. Malarcher, Class of 1862: Born- c1838. Matriculated from New Orleans, La. At VMI 1 year and 1 month (entered as a 3rd). Left VMI because of excessive demerits. Military Record: Entered service June 7, 1861 at Camp Moore, Louisiana as 2nd Lt, Company D, 7th Louisiana. Commissioned 1st Lt September 17, 1861 by governor of Louisiana (some records show September 18). To Capt October 1, 1862. Captured at the Wilderness May 5, 1864. Held at Ft Delaware, De. Taken to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina August 1864 as one of the "600 Immortals." Paroled Charleston Harbor, South Carolina December 15, 1864. In hospital (Lynchburg) January 1865. Died- Reported to have died soon after war.|
