Military Record: Entered service April 24, 1861 as Captain, Company K, 38th Va. Re-elected April 16, 1862. Wounded in action (head) at Seven Pines. Cited for "conspicuous gallantry" at Malvern Hill. Slightly wounded in action at Antietam. Wounded in action (right thigh) at Gettysburg. Appointed Major August 25, 1863 (DOR July 3); Lt Col March 26, 1864 (DOR November 15, 1863). Severly wounded in action at Drewry's Bluff (left thigh). Appointed Colonel August 25, 1864 (DOR May 16). Claimed to have captured flag of 104th Pa at Seven Pines. Unofficial source says commanded brigade at Appomattox where he was paroled. Post War Career: Teacher; merchant; railroader. Baptist. Mason. 1st marriage to Sallie Boyd 1861, 2nd marriage to Alice Boatwright 1894. Superintendent of Danville & Western Railroad. Died- October 15, 1914 in Danville, Va.|
