As Adjutant Oct. 14, 1861; left on sick leave (expected to die from typhoid fever) at Russellville, Ky. Feb. 1862; Recovered and made way on foot to Va.; Appointed 1st Lieut., Adjutant of 34th Va. Oct. 14, 1862; received one day leave on Aug. 25, 1863 to accompany some young ladies to Burkesville; Unofficial source says he was wounded in action in Petersburg trenches and at Hatcher's Run.
