Biography & Genealogy:	James Selwyn Evins, Class of 1862: Born- Feb. 25, 1839. Matriculated from Marion, Alabama. At VMI 1 year, having entered as a 3d classman (sophomore). Military Record: entered service Apr. 24, 1861 in Perry County, Alabama for 1 year as a 2d Lieutenant, Company G, 4th Alabama; absent due to illness Sep. 18- Nov. 21, 1861; went on sick leave January 1862. Died- March 9, 1862 at his parents' home in Marion, Alabama of pneumonia.
