Married- Sarah Catherine MacMurdo, daughter of James Brown MacMurdo of Richmond, Va. and Frances Maria Gertrude Moore (the daughter of Bishop Richard Channing Moore). Children- 3 daughters: 1- Amelie Rives Chanler-Troubetzkoy, who married John Armstrong Chanler but divorced him, then married Prince Pierre Troubetzkoy, an artist and Russian royalty. Amelie was a famous poet and novelist. 2- Gertrude Rives Potts, who married Col. Allen Potts 3- Sarah Landon Rives (never married).
