Biography & Genealogy:Orris Applethwaite Browne, Class of 1862. Born- 8 August 1842. Matriculated from Accomac. At VMI 2 years. Military Record: Left VMI July 1860 to enter US Naval Academy. Resigned 25 April 1861. He was in the Virginia Navy. He made Midshipman Provisional Confederate States Navy 2 June 1861. He was Acting Midshipman 8 July 1861. Passed midshipman. Assigned to CCS United States in 1861; Gosport Navy Yard in 1862; Charlotte, NC in 1862; CCS Patrick Henry 1862-1863; CSS Texas 1863; and CSS Shenandoah 1864-1865. He was on the Shenandoah on her cruise to the North Pacific and voyage back to England that ended November 1865. Post War Career: Farmer. Lived in Argentina 1865-1867. Died- 28 September 1898 in Baltimore, MD.
