Biography & Genealogy: | Garnett Yelverton Booker, Class of 1862: Born- March 31, 1843. Matriculated from Lynchburg, Va. At VMI 3 years. Military Record: Drillmaster in Richmond during Spring, 1861. Applied January 29, 1862, for Lt. in Engineers with a weak recommendation from Superintendent Francis Smith that he was a graduate of VMI "and as such is respectfully commended to the consideration of the Secretary of War". His application was filed. Enlisted for war on May 12, 1862, at Lynchburg, Va, as a Private with Co. A, 13th Battalion Va. Light Artillery (Capt. G. G. Otey '55 Battery; Capt. D. N. Walker's Battery). Sick in hospital on Nov. 1862. Assigned to Co. B, 1st Engineers on Jan. 26, 1864, as a Sgt. Wounded in Action (foot) in June, 1864. In Lynchburg Hospital in Sep., 1864, with fever. Post War Career: Merchant, Railroader. Died- November 22, 1903. |
